On The Real Forno Show - The Vikings lost to the Packers by getting smoked. It brings up concerns for the future in the NFC playoffs and this is where Tyler gets into it.

On this The Real Forno Show - Whew that was ugly. The Minnesota Vikings had a brutal loss at Lambeau Field when they lost to the Green Bay Packers by a score of 41-17. Outside of a blocked punt after just six total offensive snaps, nothing went right with some of its happenstance and some of its sheer luck.

When we discuss this rendition of the Minnesota Vikings, calling them fraudulent is objectively asinine. They fell on the wrong side of every possible shade of luck and it’s just one of those things that will happen from time to time, but it’s the first time it’s happened to this team.

How did the Vikings lose this game? There were a lot of reasons but a few of them we will focus on specifically.

Poor coaching decisions

Frustrations mounting

The wrong cleats

The Vikings came, they saw, and they got dominated all game long.

On the Final Score today…

It is January 1, 2023, and the perfect time to start an annual of beating the Green Bay Packers. Happy New Year everyone! Your Minnesota Vikings have traveled to Wisconsin to renew the tradition of sweeping our biggest border rivals. The first half has been brutal and the Vikings trail at half 27-3. Same at the end of the third, but the Packers scored starting the 4th quarter to make it 34-3. They have been behind by more and have come back, but can they do it today? Absolutely not. The final score ended up being Packers 41-17 over the purple. The Packers have shut down, Jaire Alexander in particular doing the smothering of Justin Jefferson all day so far. Kirk Cousins has thrown numerous interceptions, but mostly not his fault. One of them returned for a touchdown in a crazy start to this game. Will it get better in the second half? No, of course, it didn’t. We will have to see. …And we saw. The Vikings drop to 12-4 and are the #3 seed in the NFC Playoff picture.

Yeah, it was pretty ugly.

On Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings had an opportunity to solidify their spot at #2 in the NFC and knock the Green Bay Packers out of the NFC playoff picture.

They didn’t even come close.

The Vikings turned the ball over four times and didn’t take advantage of early opportunities, as they fell to the Packers at Lambeau Field by a final score of 41-17.

After the Vikings punted on their first possession, Josh Metellus got his second blocked punt in as many weeks to set up a first-and-goal at the Green Bay 1-yard line.

Unfortunately, the Vikings could only turn the blocked punt into three points, settling for a 21-yard field goal by Greg Joseph to make it 3-0.

That lead held up for just about ten seconds, as Keisean Nixon took the ensuing kickoff and returned it 105 yards for a touchdown to give Green Bay the lead, 7-3, with just over ten minutes left in the first quarter. On their next possession, the Packers had a 4th-and-1 from the Minnesota 39, but Aaron Rodgers was sacked by Dalvin Tomlinson to end the drive.

The Vikings then faced their own 4th-and-2 situation from the Green Bay 37-yard line, and Kirk Cousins’ pass went off the hands of T.J. Hockenson and into the hands of Darnell Savage, who returned it 75 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-3 less than ten minutes into the game.

The Packers added to their lead early in the second quarter on a 26-yard field goal by Mason Crosby to make it 17-3 with less than ten minutes left in the half. Soon after that, Cousins threw his second interception of the afternoon, as his pass was tipped and picked off by Adrian Amos to thwart what had been the Vikings’ best drive of the afternoon.

Green Bay cashed in on the turnover, as Aaron Rodgers found Robert Tonyan for a 21-yard touchdown to make it 24-3 with just under three minutes left in the half. They then added more points heading into the locker room, as Mason Crosby bounced a 55-yarder off the crossbar to make it 27-3 going into the locker room at halftime.

After the Packers punted to start the second half, the Vikings put together one of their better drives of the afternoon, but that ended in another turnover as Cousins was strip-sacked by Kenny Clark deep in Green Bay territory, with Clark recovering the loose ball. The Packers turned it into points, as A.J. Dillon cashed in on a 2-yard touchdown run to push the score to 34-3 early in the fourth quarter.

Cousins then threw another interception, this one to Rudy Ford on the first play after the touchdown. That was the Vikings’ fourth turnover of the afternoon and just added a little more to the pain for Vikings fans in this one. Green Bay turned that turnover into points as well, with Rodgers running it in from two yards out to make it 41-3 with less than ten minutes remaining.

There was one highlight to be had for the Vikings, even if it took them a while to get there. Rookie Jalen Nailor had his first NFL touchdown reception, as he caught a 47-yard pass from Cousins midway through the fourth quarter to make it 41-10. Congratulations to him on what will hopefully be the first of many.

The Vikings followed it up with one more touchdown, as Nick Mullens threw his first touchdown pass as a Viking, finding K.J. Osborn for a nine-yard score with seconds remaining to provide the final margin.

The Vikings fall to 12-4 on the season and will finish off the regular season with a trip to Soldier Field to face the Chicago Bears. The Packers finally get back to .500 at 8-8 and will host the Detroit Lions next Sunday in a game that could be a “win and in” scenario for both teams.

The Vikings lose a tough one at Lambeau Field, as they fall to the Green Bay Packers by a final score of 41-17. Thanks to everyone that got their coverage of this week’s game right here at The Daily Norseman!

Yeah, it’s still bad.

Once again, it’s time to raise four fingers high above your head because we’re moving to the fourth quarter of play at Lambeau Field with the Minnesota Vikings trailing the Green Bay Packers by. . .a lot. It’s 27-3.

The Packers got the ball first to start the second half, and to the Vikings’ credit they forced a punt after Green Bay picked up minimal yardage. The Vikings then put together a fairly decent drive, advancing into Green Bay territory for one of the rare occasions on the afternoon. The Vikings got down to the Green Bay 15, and just when it looked like the momentum was shifting, Kirk Cousins was strip-sacked by Kenny Clark, with Clark recovering for the Vikings’ third turnover of the afternoon.

The Packers then went on a long drive after that, moving deep into Minnesota territory. As we move to the fourth quarter the Packers have a first-and-goal from the Minnesota 2-yard line.

It’s been an ugly game this afternoon, with the Vikings currently trailing the Packers by a score of 27-3 after three quarters of play. Come join us for the conclusion of this one, folks. . .commiserate as a group and stuff.

Yep, it’s been ugly

The teams are heading into the locker rooms in Green Bay, and the Minnesota Vikings trail the Green Bay Packers by a score of 27-3. Yeah, it’s been ugly.

After a disastrous first quarter for the Vikings, Green Bay started the second quarter by driving deep into Minnesota territory, establishing a first-and-goal situation at the 6-yard line. That eventually became 4th-and-goal from the 3, and the Packers settled for a 26-yard field goal from Mason Crosby to make the score 17-3.

Minnesota took over and pushed the ball to near midfield, overcoming a 1st-and-25 situation to get into Green Bay territory. Then, Kirk Cousins had a pass tipped and it wound up turning into his second interception of the day, this one by Adrian Amos, who returned it to the Green Bay 40-yard line.

Green Bay cashed in on the turnover, with Aaron Rodgers finding Robert Tonyan for a 21-yard touchdown pass to make it 24-3 with 2:41 remaining in the first half.

The Vikings had a chance to cut into the lead before the half, but Greg Joseph missed his second field goal of the afternoon, a 50-yarder that went wide to the left. The Packers got another opportunity at the end of the half, and they converted on a 55-yarder from Mason Crosby to make it 27-3 as the teams went into the locker room.

Pretty much everything in this one has been a disaster for the Vikings, as you already know if you’ve been watching this one. We’ll just leave it at that.

We’re at halftime at Lambeau Field, with the Minnesota Vikings trailing the Green Bay Packers by a score of 27-3. Come on in and join us for the third quarter anyway!

The good guys trail early

We’ve made it through the first quarter of play at Lambeau Field with your Minnesota Vikings trailing the Green Bay Packers by a score of 14-3.

The Vikings got the football first after Green Bay won the toss and deferred to the second half, with Kirk Cousins leading the offense onto the field at their own 33-yard line. After a couple of short gains by Dalvin Cook, Cousins’ pass on third down fell incomplete and they punted it away, with Green Bay taking over at their own 21-yard line.

The Packers went three-and-out as well. . .but Josh Metellus, for the second week in a row, got a huge blocked punt! The ball bounced back to the Green Bay punter and he was taken down at the Green Bay 2-yard line!

Unfortunately, three straight offensive plays didn’t get the ball into the end zone, and the Vikings settled for a 21-yard field goal from Greg Joseph to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Vikings had the lead for about ten seconds, as Keisean Nixon took the ensuing kickoff and returned it 105 yards for a Green Bay touchdown, making it 7-3 with a little more than ten minutes left in the first quarter.

Minnesota took over on their next drive from their own 25 after a touchback, and proceeded to go three-and-out once again with players slipping on their routes. Green Bay took over at their own 38-yard line. The Packers quickly got over midfield thanks to Aaron. . .Jones, and faced a 4th-and-1 from the Minnesota 39-yard line. Rather than run it again, Aaron Rodgers dropped back to pass and was sacked by Dalvin Tomlinson, fumbling the ball away with the Vikings recovering. Rodgers was later ruled down by contact, but the Vikings kept the football.

The Vikings then faced their own fourth down situation, a 4th-and-2 from the Green Bay 37. They went for it, and Cousins pass went off the hands of T.J. Hockenson and into the hands of Darnell Savage, who returned it 75 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-3 a little less than ten minutes into the game.

Minnesota’s offense got a spark on their next drive from Cousins, who ran for a big 19-yard gain on third down to keep the drive going, and Dalvin Cook followed that up with a big gain of his own on a screen pass. That led to Greg Joseph attempting a 46-yard field goal, with Greg Joseph pushing it wide to the right.

As we move to the second quarter of play, the Packers are looking at a 3rd-and-6 from the Minnesota 46-yard line.

It’s been a wild one early from Lambeau, but the Vikings trail the Packers by a score of 14-3. Come join us for the second quarter of play!

Not a good sign for the Vikings

A lot of bad things have happened to the Minnesota Vikings early on in their game against the Green Bay Packers, not the least of which is having two offensive linemen being taken to the locker room on a cart.

The Vikings lost center Austin Schlottmann on the second drive of the game down by the goal line, and a couple of drives later lost right tackle Brian O’Neill during a return of a pick-six. Again, both players were taken to the locker room on a cart.

Schlottmann was starting at center because of the back injury to Garrett Bradbury, who has improved immensely this season. O’Neill has been a stalwart at right tackle for the Vikings since he was drafted and his absence will certainly be felt as well.

Both Schlottman and O’Neill have been ruled out for the remainder of this game, a bad sign for a Vikings’ team that’s already down 14-3 before the end of the first quarter (without the defense giving up any points).

Chris Reed is now in at center for the Vikings, with Oli Udoh taking over at right tackle.

Once again, the Vikings have had two of the offensive linemen that started today’s game taken back to the locker room on a cart in the first quarter of play, and they’ve both already been ruled out.
